During the month of May, when in Italy, we started to leave our homes timidly, Instagram began to test a small step forward towards the immense full of its section of stories, or a «Double story» flow::

The most curious and attentive had already noticed this functionality in April, when a developer identified a strange script in the source code which allowed the preview of the display of stories in full screen.

The developer who noticed the source code was so surprised that he initially thought of a joke … Returning to the reality of the facts, it seems that Instagram seriously envisages this full screen experience.

The subject is burned and we often talk about it in these pages, difficult not to consider Tik Tok in the equation, Which Instagram is spasmodically experimenting with means of countering the increasingly constant growth of Tik Tok?

From our point of view, the answer is positive.

In the future plans of the application, there seems to be a kind of magazine home page, which will be linked to this new feature: at the opening of the application, we will actually be catapulted immediately in this complete story, in fact creating an «event» which is activated when the user opens the application (just like Tik Tok with its advertisement)

Behind this new function, there also seems to be the desire to solve a functional problem: more and more people use stories, and The small section at the top seems to become less and less suitable to contain all the amount of content published by users.

According to our forecasts, in fact, in the future, not too far, all the Instagram experience will revolve around stories, leaving classical photographic feed a secondary role in a detached «tab».

As we can imagine, it would be a huge change but which would reflect reality: stories increase year after year in quantity and at engagement rate – in addition the trend of social networks today seems more and more to go to full screen experiences.

It therefore seems coherent, according to the vision of Instagram, to set up this trend and to move in this direction.

But … how will we understand if this experience will be a success?

Simple, if the platform notices an increase in the engagement generated by stories, it is very likely that the test pool will extend to an increasing tranche of the public to the best of hypotheses, to the final version.
